HEATING GRANTS
Back Boiler Replacement Grants
Back boilers were once extremely popular as they could be hidden out of sight in a fireplace with a gas or electric fire in front.
Except for a small number of back boilers made in the early 2010s all back boilers are non-condensing and are usually less than 65% efficient. This means that for every £1 of gas, at least 35p is going straight up the chimney in wasted heat.
As a result of changes to minimum efficiency values- back boilers are no longer available and can be replaced with either a wall mounted boiler or an Air Source Heat Pump.
Free Gas Boiler Replacement Grants
If your boiler was installed before April 2005, you may have an old, non- condensing boiler.
These boilers are generally around 65% efficient. This means that for every £1 of gas, at least 35p is going straight up the chimney in wasted heat.
The grant will replace your old boiler with a modern A-rated condensing gas boiler which is around 92% efficient and will save you hundreds of pounds per year. Alternatively, your old inefficient boiler can be replaced with an Air Source Heat Pump through the ECO4 scheme and will usually be combined with solar panels to reduce your energy bills even further.
LPG Boiler Replacement Grants
The UK Government is committed to reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
With this grant, it is possible to get your LPG boiler upgraded to an Air Source Heat Pump through the ECO4 scheme and receive solar panels to produce free electricity at the same time.
If you are currently heating your home using a boiler fueled with either LPG bottles or bulk LPG you may qualify for a grant if you, or someone in your household, receives one of the qualifying benefits or are eligible through the ECO4 Flex scheme. Your boiler should also be 9 or more years old.
Oil and Solid Fuel Replacement Grants
The UK Government is committed to reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
With this grant, it is possible to get your oil or solid fuel boiler upgraded to an Air Source Heat Pump through the ECO4 scheme and receive solar panels to produce free electricity at the same time.
If you are currently heating your home using either oil or solid fuel, you may qualify for a grant provided you, or someone in your household, receives one of the qualifying benefits or is eligible through the ECO4 Flex scheme.
Free First Time Central Heating Grants
If your home has never had a central heating system, you could qualify for a First Time Central Heating Grant under the ECO4 scheme.
To qualify, you or someone in your household must be in receipt of either one of the qualifying benefits or qualify under the ECO Flex scheme (if available in your area).
As well as no heating at all, other heating systems which qualify for a First Time Central Heating Grant under ECO4 include:
- Gas room heaters
- Electric room heaters
- Back boiler with one or no radiator
- Range cooker boiler with one or no radiator
- Warm air heating
- Solid fossil fuel fire with back boiler
- Electric underfloor heating (not connected to an electric boiler)
- Ceiling heating (not connected to an electric boiler)
- Bottled LPG room heating
- Solid fossil fuel room heaters
- Wood/biomass room heating
- Oil room heaters.
Will I receive a Gas Boiler or Air Source Heat Pump?
If your home had a mains gas connection, which was in use before 1st April 2022, we will be able to install gas central heating for you. Examples include- if you cook using gas, have gas room heaters or a warm air gas heating system.
However, if you do not have mains gas, you will receive an Air Source Heat Pump which is one of the most efficient forms of heating available.
